Assistant Teacher

Department: Early Childhood Education Center

Reports to: ECC Director

Supervises: 0

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: To assist with creating a quality program and a class environment conducive to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Essential duties and responsibilities: 

  • Promote and support children’s social, emotional, and physical development consistent with the philosophy of Head Start.
  • Assist and provide input with planning and developing a creative curriculum and opportunities for social and emotional development.
  • Work in collaboration with all program staff.
  • Assist with the implementation of lesson plans and daily activities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of early childhood theories of growth and development.
  • Provide support with individualized learning opportunities to children in order to enhance their development of cognitive and language skills.
  • Establish a quality early childhood learning environment, with attention to standards of health, safety, and organization, and maintain the policies and procedures of the program.
  • Consult with the lead teacher on observations and assessments of children.
  • Observe and document each child’s learning and development in support of DRDP data collection.
  • Assist with maintaining required individual children assessments in compliance with Early Childhood affiliated Federal and State contracts.
  •  Provide lead role of lesson implementation in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with staff and families.   
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and parents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or Associates degree with 9 hours in Early Childhood preferred
  • Two (2) to four (4) years’ experience working in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Must have early childhood classes in the transcript.
  • Current Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
  • Preschool CDA required
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Pass a background and drug screening.
  • TB test required.
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with children.

JOB TWO

Housing Counselor/Case Manager (ESG)

Department: Health and Human Services                        

Reports to: Family Support Manager

Supervises: 0                                                                                            

FLSA status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Summary: Provides direct assistance to clients with emergency housing and housing related needs. Additional wraparound services will be provided to support the program’s response to resolving family crises, preventing homelessness and improving overall economic and housing security. Services may include housing counseling, case management, specific housing and housing related assistance, and information and referrals. Additionally, performs administrative tasks related to the agency’s Family Support Program, and specific ESG contract..

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides assessment and case management services under the framework of the City of KCMO Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG award) , HEARTH Act of 2009, and HUD ESGP objectives.
  • Interviews and assesses clients with Housing Relocation and Stabilization Services; emergency housing & housing related needs; provides eligible activities under the ESG award and/or makes appropriate referrals to those deemed ineligible.
  • Conducts financial assessments to determine client eligibility for program services/various types of assistance.
  • Maintains thorough and accurate ledgers and completes required programmatic and fiscal reporting for federal assistance funds and private funds including but not limited to: ESG, and/or private funds..
  • Prepares purchase orders for the accounting department to release housing assistance payments and housing related assistance including utilities..
  • Makes pledges/guarantees on eligible client accounts and processes the payment request for landlords/property owners/ and the utility company in a timely manner.
  • Tracks program outcomes; knowledgeable regarding goals, delivery methodology, final homeless prevention outcomes achieved.
  • Maintains good working relationships with vendor companies/landlords.
  • Provides budget counseling to clients and prepares service plans defining housing and/or housing related goals.
  • Inputs required client data into Management Information System MaacLink. Keeps accurate and timely recordkeeping documentation; eligibility, assessment, goal plan development, and ongoing regular follow up on goal plan.
  • Performs program outreach and represents agency as requested within the housing service delivery sector.
  • Participates in the Continuum of Care
  • Collaborates with other internal and external service providers to enhance service delivery.
  • Facilitates linkage to FOC program to support clients in growing their financial knowledge, financial behaviors and assets.
  • Supports a collaborative/ team environment in the delivery of client services.
  • Represents the agency in a professional and knowledgeable manner as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in Social Service setting and Associates Degree
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or related field preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills
  • The ability to work in a non-judgemental way with a wide range of people, caring nature, patient, professional
  • The ability to handle confidential information.
  • Fluent in English/Spanish required
